With Rob McDonald taking the English Championship he is in some people's eyes the favourite to walk away with the National Hot Rod World Championship. However, Scottish drivers may have exceled in Stock Cars and Stock Rod racing yet have never come away with Gold in National Hot Rods their record is bad, in the 40 plus year history of the race well has there been anything for the Scots to get excited about?

During the mid-1990s National Hot Rods was more or less dead, cars with the same shape and construction as National Hot Rod existed but were only allowed to race with Ford Pinto engines; although it was questionable at the time whether they should be in the NHR World Final Colin was one of those that would race and bolted in a Vauxhall 16 valve whenever the opportunity arose. In his four appearances his best performance came in 1997 when he finished 8th. Photo: Lee Halcox
